Martell cognac House has teamed up with acclaimed fashion designer Jason Wu and invited him to express his own vision of elegance for Martell Noblige and Martell VSOP cognacs. The collaboration gave life to stunning “Black Tie” limited editions, with a contemporary design, reflecting the cognac’s character.
Infused with timeless codes of masculine style and elegance, Jason Wu has brought his own perspective to reinvent the Martell Noblige and VSOP universe. Leather-like effects in deep black with touches of gold, inspired by the dinner jacket, extend an invitation to enter a sophisticated world in which conviviality and elegance are paramount.
The fashion designer drew his inspiration from his experience in Cognac, France in the House of Martell and from the refinement rooted in its 300 year old heritage that made a strong impression on him.
“When I arrived at the Maison Martell, I was impressed by the architecture and the magnificent history which radiates from it. Every little detail, from the furniture to the cellar where the cognacs are maturing, is a source of inspiration”, he says. The visit also highlighted the relationship between his work and Martell’s fundamental precept of “obsession for detail”.
Martell Noblige, Martell VSOP and Jason Wu share common values based on that genuine elegance which comes from inner resources and is in no way superficial. “Elegance is much more an innate sensibility, something that comes from the inside” commented the charismatic artist. With his sober and sensitive style, he crafted the bottle and presentation box with the greatest attention to detail, while suggesting inner elegance – perfectly matching the cognac contained inside.
Jason Wu will also bring his own lifestyle slant to Martell Noblige/ VSOP (fashion, visual art, mixology and music), thereby exploring a fascinating landscape of the senses. He created a tasting ritual with a cocktail he specially invented.
The young designer, who achieved fame with the dress worn by America’s First Lady, Michelle Obama, at her husband’s inaugural ball in 2009, revealed the partnership in September during Paris Fashion Week. The Noblige Black Tie Limited Edition has also been unveiled in November in Shanghai, China.
