Cellar Master Christophe Valtaud has created a remarkable cognac – the fruit of an encounter between two eaux-de-vie selected from the Réserve du Fondateur. Sourced from Grande Champagne, a single and most exceptional cru, these rare eaux-de-vie are among the Maison’s oldest and rarest. The first, having spent longer in oak, is characterised by power, tension and length on the palate, with prominent notes of cedar. The second is fresh and vibrant, with notes of honey, white flowers and candied fruit. Blended together, they offer a remarkable harmony that would not exist were they tasted alone.
The acquirer will also be given the rare opportunity to further personalise the cognac by adding one or more rare eaux-de-vie of special personal significance over an exceptional private tasting and unforgettable encounter with Christophe Valtaud.
The Maison has commissioned French artist Laurentine Perilhou who has elevated the craft of macramé into an exquisite art. Made with real gold thread, Laurentine’s creation represents the vine’s journey as it draws vital energy through its roots to produce the vigorous shoots that bring forth Martell’s precious cognac grapes.
To create her one-of-a-kind dame-jeanne for Martell, Laurentine worked with precious gold thread produced by the very last manufacturer of its kind, based in Lyon, France. She crafted the gold thread into a magnificent, highly elaborate décor: from the roots, embellished with tiny gold nuggets, through the swirling tendrils that grace the body of the dame-jeanne, to the explosion of vine leaves at the top. To further enhance the beauty and uniqueness of the artwork, it is adorned with three synthetic sapphires and a single diamond, set in 22-carat gold, as well as 40 cabochons of 300-year-old oak, evoking the savoir-faire of Maison Martell. In all, she spent over 800 hours crafting the piece.
In addition to taking home the precious artwork that is the dame-jeanne, the acquirer will also receive a striking bespoke cabinet in which to showcase it, as well as a refine ritual of service. An exquisite tasting and service experience awaits one distinguished individual.
This extraordinary creation, which brings together two traditions of savoir-faire, offers exclusive access to an array of exceptional experiences. The client will be welcomed by Maison Martell in both Paris and Cognac with a series of prestigious, one-of-a-kind experiences offering an in-depth exploration of the worlds of art, cognac and luxury, in the company of Laurentine Perilhou and Christophe Valtaud.
